A Garden of Blessings

“…the very fact that there is difference and variety lends a charm to the garden.”

~ (Abdu'l-Bahá, Bahá'í World Faith)

Our Bahá’í garden this year has been slow in showing its blessings, although the ten varieties of vegetables and the two edible-flower mixtures had some real stars. The vegetable leaders were the peas and kale, which were donated to the local Campbell River soup kitchen. The bloom master was the nasturtiums.

We are hoping the carrots and beets will be late finishers and provide abundance for the fall harvest.

Please enjoy a few pictures taken at different times during the growing season. They are meant to give you a feel of the garden and some of the Bahá’ís involved. We have made some casual acquaintances with the other gardeners and the Laughing Willow Community Garden is developing into friendly place to be.

Our hope is to have the youth become more involved so that they may learn one of life’s most fundamental skills – caring for other things.

THE ANNUAL UNITY PICNIC held in Campbell River, British Columbia, on Monday, September 3, 2012, was so joyful and comfortable that one of the organizers only realized that he had worn his house slippers well into the festivities. Friends greeted one another with open arms that folded into warm hugs. The upbeat chatter and belly laughs could be heard throughout the park. Children were supported with games by our newly inaugurated animator and her youthful friends. The wind lifted kites, spirits and the message banners reading Community Building Community, and The Earth is One Country and Mankind its Citizens. Curious passersby were invited to join the group for a potluck dinner and many accepted the hospitality. The theme provides family, friends and inquisitive citizens ample opportunity to open their hearts.

The banner of the Most Great Peace has been unfurled and the "great community" is appearing. ~ (Abdu'l-Bahá, Bahá’í World Faith - Abdu'l-Bahá Section, p. 224)
